Bamboo is a collective name for a group of grasses that grow in tropical, subtropical and temperate areas in Asia and America – even in some parts of Europe. Most species are not deciduous lignoses (woody plants). The bamboo is characterized by the fact that its leaves have leaf shafts unlike other grasses that lack these. 01.  A big question mark regarding the flowering …

Most bamboo species flowers only one time per decades , and then bloom the whole set at once. That is, when an assortment blooms, the entire variety blooms simultaneously, all over the world , regardless of location, climate or other known factors. Why it is in this way, scientists do not yet know, but fascinating it is.

02.  Pandas smarter than we think …

A panda at a zoo noticed that a pregnant panda received special treatment, so he copied the behavior of the pregnant panda to get extra bamboo.

03.  Smuggled silk worms in bamboo canes…

Two Christian monks smuggled silk worms out of China into bamboo canes . These silkworms were used to give the Byzantine Empire a trading monopoly in Europe , which became the basis of its economy for the next 650 years .

04.  Train entirely made of bamboo …

In parts of the country, Cambodia , people have made their own small train of  bamboo . This is after regular services from the state have ceased to function. Similarly, there are several copies of bamboo bridges , built entirely by the population themselves.

During World War II, the British government camouflaged Taj Mahal with scaffolding made of bamboo to protect it from German bombers . This was done again in 1965 and 1971 when India was in conflict with Pakistan .

08. Can grow almost a meter a day …

There is a whole wealth of different bamboo varieties . To be exact, there are 91 genera and 1,000 different species . Some of them can grow up to 91 centimeters in a single day .

09.  Used as a torture tool during World War II …

” Bamboo torture ” was something the Japanese used on American soldiers during the Second World War . It was all about tying a man down to the ground over bamboo shoots , which would slowly grow up and pierce the living soldier. The process was tyrannical and lasted for several days . The Japanese also used to stuff bamboo sticks under the nails of prisoners when conducting interrogations.

10.  Price of bamboo led to war …

A pricing dispute over bamboo led to a war that took a the lives of 21 million people. The war was between the Qing Empire (China) and the Ottoman Empire along with Britain.
